Unlikely Productions

Your favorite amateur film making company

Unlikely Productions are an independent, amateur film making team from the UK. Unlikely Productions have been running since January 2004, and is the joint effort of Simon Lawrence, John Ashby and Tom Blockley. Feel free to distribute the links to our work!

Unlikely Animations

Unlikely productions started off in Animations, using the basic tools around us (such as whiteboards and digital cameras) to craft our masterpieces. Since then, we've moved on, from felt tips and digital images right up to the latest in 3D (Lego) stop motion animation.

Isostacy

Isostacy was the first animation made by Unlikely Productions in January 2004. It was shot using a Kodak DX3500 digital camera, and a small whiteboard in a bedroom. We drew, shot and edited it in an afternoon, and it made for the most proud evening possibly of our lives. You can watch Isostacy on YouTube™.
(I also recommend you have a lolz at the "related videos" which think our Isostacy is some scientific film on the topic...)

Inspecific Technology

Inspecific Technology is a short animation outlining the wonders and woes of Modern Technology. It was drawn in Berol™ felt tip pens, scanned in using an A4 scanner, and animated by Simon Lawrence. You can watch Inspecific Technology online on YouTube™.

Don't neglect your toothbrush

Don't Neglect your toothbrush was made in response to a challenge to make a film: "About, or including, a toothbrush" - it is a an animation in the style of an 'aid advert', simply asking people to spend more time with their brush each day.

You can watch Don't Neglect Your Toothbrush online at MySpace.

Hero In a Dream

John Ashbys first delve into 3D stop motion animation took him just under 2 years to complete and tells the story of a man whose dream is influenced by late night television viewing. It's based on the song of the same name by Ensiferum, and is an epic achievement in the field of animation. You can watch Hero in a Dream, like thousands of others have, on YouTube™ too.

Live Action

We've made two full live action films. Fantom of the Opera, and Das Hund. Sadly neither are currently available to view online. But should be in the Summer 2009.

Fantom of the Opera

Fantom was the first live action, fiction film, by Unlikely Productions. Just over 12 minutes long, it was writen, shot and first cut in exactly one month. The final cut, and DVD features were finished over the next 6 weeks, and the film was screened at Essex University in February 2005.

Das Hund

Das Hund was a film made as part of a trio of films. Three film makers made short films based on the same childrens 'ghost story' - without comparing notes - and the films were then compared, just for fun. It was fun, the films were very different...
